Graduate Recruitment Scheme

What We Offer

Graduates can join the Victorian Government in a number of ways. This site outlines the options available.

Graduate Recruitment and Development Scheme

The Graduate Recruitment and Development (GRAD) Scheme is a 12-month development program offering a unique opportunity to learn about government and contribute to a range of initiatives.

You are employed by one government department and then rotate through two more departments throughout the year. You are then guaranteed a position with your home department on successful completion of the program.

In 2009, approximately 150 graduates will be accepted into the GRAD Scheme across four streams:

Generalist: The Generalist stream is open to graduates from any academic discipline. Generalists rotate between departments or agencies participating in the GRAD Scheme. Generalist graduates participate in the structured learning and development program run throughout the year.

Accounting and Finance: The Accounting and Finance stream is open to graduates with a minimum of 30% accounting subjects in their degree. Accounting and Finance graduates rotate through three placements. In addition to the GRAD Scheme learning and development program graduates have access to specialised training (e.g. CA, CPA, or FINSIA).

Economics: The Economist stream is open to graduates with an economics major or degree. Economist graduates rotate through three placements. In addition to the GRAD Scheme learning and development program graduates have access to specialised economic training courses.

Engineering - civil and mechanical: Graduates in this stream undertake an 18 month program, participating in three, six monthly rotations in the Department of Transport. In addition to the GRAD Scheme learning and development program, engineering graduates have access to specialised training. The recruitment process for this stream is to be advised in the second part of the year.

Why join the GRAD Scheme?

Science graduate program: A two-year training and development program for graduates of science, natural resource management, ecology, conservation and related professions.

Auditor-General graduate program: A one-year program for accounting graduates to build a career as a specialist auditor.
