Learning and development
The Victorian Government is committed to building a high-quality workforce. We offer individual training and development opportunities that build your skills and talents and support your career.
Most departments provide comprehensive induction training so you can become familiar with the department and its functions. As a graduate, you’ll have access to formal training programs and training relevant to your job. For example, you may be encouraged to attend training specific to your department.
Learning and development in the GRAD Scheme
The Graduate Recruitment and Development (GRAD) Scheme incorporates a structured learning and development program throughout the year. This covers:
- knowledge of government structure and processes
- policy development skills
- project management skills
- communications.
Progress is planned and tracked through your professional development plan.
Formal training programs are provided during the year to support your development and progress to the next level of the career structure.
On the job training is ongoing through your department.
The GRAD scheme also offers regular seminars and executive forums with senior government figures, giving you the opportunity to learn from some of Victoria's key public sector leaders.
If you are an Accounting and Finance, Engineering or Economics graduate, you also have access to
specialist training to address your specific technical and professional development needs.
